Economic and Environmental Sustainability Assessment of Solar Photovoltaic Technology in Nigeria: Rural Electrification Perspective
نویسندگان
چکیده
The country, Nigeria, has large solar energy resource potentials yet to be tapped while her sector continues go through insufficient electrical generation. This work identified some barriers and challenges hindering rapid development of PV applications in Nigeria suggested new strategies overcoming them cases where is profitable also considers necessary mitigation factors it not viable. economic environmental sustainability technology was assessed using Alare/Araromi village, as a case study. RETScreen modelling software used determine the feasibility production capacity Solar system total life cycle method 25 years span. Net Present Value (NPV) -$1,585,220 Benefit Cost Ratio (BC-R) -0.78 at tariff rate $0.766 /kWh greenhouse gases (GHG) reduced drastically. No profit-oriented company will ever invest such project. However, observed, that NPV becomes positive BC-R greater than unity, when lower interest higher start-up grants were introduced. provide policy makers with different alternative ways meeting needs rural areas.

Rural Electrification Efforts Based on Off-Grid Photovoltaic Systems in the Andean Region: Comparative Assessment of Their Sustainability
In this paper, we comparatively assess the sustainability of rural electrification efforts based on off-grid solutions in Chile, Ecuador, and Peru. Our assessment considers four dimensions of sustainability (institutional, economic, environmental, and socio-cultural). We found that Ecuador and Chile have consistently failed to ensure mechanisms for the operation and maintenance of the deployed ...
متن کاملSustainability of Off-Grid Photovoltaic Systems for Rural Electrification in Developing Countries: A Review
A review on rural electrification programs and projects based on off-grid Photovoltaic (PV) systems, including Solar Pico Systems (SPS) and Solar Home Systems (SHS) in Developing Countries (DCs) was conducted. The goal was to highlight the main multidimensional drawbacks that may constrain the sustainability of these systems. Four dimensions of sustainability (institutional, economic, environme...
متن کاملSustainability and Development Impacts of Off- Grid Electrification in Developing Countries an Assessment of South Africa's Rural Electrification Program
Previous studies have shown that provision of sustainable electricity supply to rural households is essential to bring development to off-grid populations. For this reason, most developing countries put large efforts into rural electrification programs to stimulate development and reduce poverty. However, to be sustainable these programs need to recover costs, which poses a challenge to remote ...

Introduction In recent years, increase in demand as a result of world population and industrialization lead to demand for the use of natural resources. This issue causes environmental problems and challenges. Therefore, sustainable development is considered by different researchers. Sustainable development has various dimensions such as economic, social, cultural, political and environmental...
متن کاملRural Electrification in India: Economic and Institutional aspects of Renewables
The paper assesses the demand for rural electricity services and contrasts it with the technology options available for rural electrification. Decentralised Distributed Generation can be economically viable as reflected by case studies reported in literature and analysed in our field study. Project success is driven by economically viable technology choice; however it is largely contingent on o...
